Membership Information

Electronic Resources

  • Online eBooks and eJournals are accessible via the library catalogue. Search for them using the tool on the library homepage.
  • An A to Z list of databases to assist with research and clinical decision making can be accessed from library homepage under the resources menu, or the Databases menu tile.
  • When you access the resource you be need to login using your Library membership number and password.

 

Physical Collections

  • The library holds a collection of physical books held in the library:
    • The main textbook collection: Most items can be borrowed for 3 weeks with two (2) renewals. Some items are labelled Short Term Loan and are only available for 1 week with two (2) renewals.
    • The exam collection: Available for loan for 1 week with two (2) renewals.
    • The historical collection: This collection is stored in a locked cabinet. It cannot be borrowed but can be accessed in the library. Talk to the librarians to retrieve a book from this collection.
    • You can search for books by title or subject using the search tool on the library homepage.

 

Borrowing

  • Current membership is required to borrow or reserve library books. We suggest using the library mobile app to store your membership number. You can apply for membership or update your details by visting the Join/Renew membership page.
  • The print book collection is available for loan or use in the Library.
  • Only 5 items can be on loan at any one time.
  • Offsite mental health staff can reserve books by searching the catalogue from the library homepage, to be sent to the registered work address. Please ensure your work details are current before placing requests. NOTE: Books must be returned to the library at your own cost.
  • RMH Royal Park staff can reserve books by searching the catalogue from the library homepage, to be sent to Royal Park via the internal courier service.
  • Items cannot be borrowed after hours at this stage.
  • Please notify us if your personal details change (e.g. address, mobile number or email address) by calling, visiting us in person, or submitting an update form.

 

Book Renewals

  • The main and exam collections can be renewed up to 2 times providing the item is not overdue or reserved by another Library Member.
  • Books can be renewed in any of the following ways:
    • Online by logging into your library account (Use the "Library Account" menu at the top of the page).
    • By using the library mobile app.
    • In person at the library front desk.
    • Over the phone during opening hours.

 

Returning items

  • Items can be returned in person to the Health Sciences Library at RMH City Campus during opening hours. Staff with swipe card access can return books after hours via the internal Returns chute.
  • Offsite members (Royal Park and Mental Health) can return books via the Melbourne Health Courier Service (if applicable) or via registered Australia Post at your own cost.

 

Online resources

  • When using the library's electronic resources and other materials, Members acknowledge that they will comply with any applicable Australian copyright laws or licence agreements, and terms and conditions of any third-party supplier/provider of Library resources.

 

Membership Cards

  • The library no longer issues a physical library card. Your membership number is emailed to you when you join. Please check your junk mail folder if you do not see the Library Welcome email in your inbox.
  • The library mobile app also acts as an electronic library card and will store your membership number once you install it and login. You can use this app to borrow books at the library front desk.
